FIM E-BIKE GRAND PRIX OF SARDINIA
BAUNEI – 27/28 JUNE
Start Time – This weekend, the FIM E-Bike Enduro World Cup will land on the eastern coast of Sardinia, more precisely in Baunei, a stunning tourist destination in Ogliastra boasting 32 km of unspoilt coastline, with towering cliffs, crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches.
The race programme will get underway at 09:00 from Piazza Principessa di Navarra, with riders set to tackle two laps. The course will cover more than 34 km in total, with 1,596 metres of elevation gain.
There will be three special tests, for a total of over 10 km:
- PS1 “Locorbu”
- PS2 “Scoine”
- PS3 “Surrele”
Several leading riders from the Italian Championship will also be on the start line, including Eric Anselmo (Thok – MC La Guardia), 2025 World Champion, Andrea Lucchini (Mondraker – Versilia Corse), Filippo Colarusso (Olimpia – Torre della Meloria), and Ligurian rider Christina Buniva (Thok – La Guardia).
A strong contingent of Sardinian riders will also take part, including Costantino Viola, a regular competitor in the Italian Championship. For this occasion, he will return to his homeland, despite having been based elsewhere for some time due to work commitments.
Among the most notable and somewhat unexpected names on the entry list is French multi-champion Christophe Pourcel, whose remarkable career includes victory in the 2006 Motocross World Championship. In 2007, while dominating the season in Ireland, he suffered a serious accident that left him with partial paralysis. After a determined and astonishing recovery, the young rider from Marseille moved to the United States in 2009, where he went on to win the AMA Supercross Championship, one of the most important, demanding and prestigious championships in the world. Today, he races in the E-Bike GP.
Another major name on the start list is Switzerland’s Giacomo Nizzolo. The Swiss rider is a recently retired professional road cyclist and now an enduro enthusiast. One of the best sprinters of his generation, he won the Swiss National Road Race title twice, in 2015 and 2016, and claimed the European Road Race Championship title in 2020.
The rider travelling the furthest will be Hamish McDonald from New Zealand. The 27-year-old has five world titles and several national championships to his name, and is now training intensively on his E-Bike.
The event will also mark the seasonal E-Bike debut of British rider Steve Holcombe, who is still actively competing at the highest level. Steve has won nine Enduro Motorcycle World Championships, four of them as Overall World Champion. In 2026, he is once again dominating the World Championship.
